iPhone call reject feature

January 11th, 2009

I was mulling call rejection functionality today, and made this little video mockup to illustrate my thought.

Nice idea – the first thing I thought when I saw it was “That would be cool if it worked with things”

But (and this is my main gripe with the iPhone at the moment) it is so restricted that integration, sadly, beyond apple software would be a bit of a nightmare.

    Still, cool idea :)

Nice. Don’t think it would need to work with Things @George_Wiscombe – not everyone uses that software. But if it did send an E-mail reminder, then it’d be just fine.

@Giles – agreed, an e-mail would be fine.

I was more voicing my train of thought about how ideas like this could be made so much better with third party app integration.

Perhaps a better example would be the lack of iTunes support for FF Bookmarks sync.

I believe current PalmOS devices have an option to reject a call using text, though without the template message and auto-send.

The Nokia E61 has this functionality but only allows 1 pre-set message. I like that this would have at least a couple. A formal response to work colleagues and a more human/loving response to friends and family.

Work colleagues: ‘I’m sorry I can’t take your call right now, I’m currently in a meeting. Will call you after it’s finished’.

Friend/family: ‘I’m in ANOTHER meeting, they do go on! Speak later after I’ve recovered ;)’

    Thanks for all the comments.

Yes, precedents definitely exist. I was trying to get at the idea that a tiny interaction could be powerful, especially if configurable and integrated with other software. I used the examples of “Send SMS” and “Add to Tasks”, but you could imagine “Call forward”, “Email my PA”, and so on.

    One day …

Really like your idea and ready to pay for that software when it is available. :)
    $10USD.
